A simple but ambitious idea: bringing hot bread directly to people's homes via an app.

The project

But simple things often hide considerable complexity. Behind that click, dozens of actions and related digital objects had to be set up. The work began in August 2023 and ended in mid-December of the same year. An intense and fascinating race.

"
One click, and you can enjoy a loaf of bread or bread baked freshly for you.
"

The heart of the project involved purchasing bread dough from the best bakers in Milan. Collected in a centralized location, it would be cooked in two phases: the first in the morning, up to 80% of the cooking; the second just before the customer's order. Then the riders would leave with the warm and fragrant bread to the home of those who had ordered it.

  • A dedicated and creative design, with the creation of logos and brand identity.

Execution

From the end user’s point of view, everything had to feel simple and intuitive.

"
You download the app, see the type of bread available, choose the delivery time and maybe even add some side dishes.
"

In order for this linearity to remain the same, we had to take care of every detail, starting with the product setup: each type of bread had cooking times, expiration dates and traceability to respect. Then there were the photos, essential for presenting the products in the best possible way on the app. And then there was the warehouse management and the orders to the bakers, who had to guarantee always fresh bread dough.

The operational phase was equally complicated: a digital wall would have had to guide all the actions to be carried out at the collection center. The cooking cycles, the conservation of the dough (raw and 80% cooked), the packaging, the expiration dates, the traceability. All marked by impeccable timing.

Akesis

The management of the riders, then, was dictated by complex logistics: they had to follow an optimized route to deliver up to five orders in an hour, all coordinated via codes and real-time monitoring. Each delivery required precise printing of the receipts.

To all this was added an unusual payment system, based on a pre-authorization that unlocked the actual payment only when the bread was ready. A mechanism designed to avoid management of returns and cancellations that would have proved problematic.

In all of this, Akesis played a central role. Its scalability allowed us to easily integrate the warehouse system, orders, production, customer and supplier management, ensuring that each element worked as part of a perfectly oiled mechanism.

And oil on bread, as we know, is undeniably good.
